Title: YOUNG GOD
Author: Elle Doki

Hoping for more as the days passed was all Kotsui could do. Every day Mizu would just look around the house or entertain himself with something simple. Kotsui tried to talk with the young man, or somehow converse with him to find out about how he was born. It never helped.

Every day the snow fell heavier, and every day Mizu would watch it pile up.

“You really like the snow?”

“Yes.” Mizu answered, not moving from his ‘perch’ at the window.

“Why?” Kotsui asked, walking over after a long day of work.

Mizu shrugged a bit. “The coldness and the white pieces in the air comforts me somehow.”

Kotsui put a hand to his chin, “Ever think you just may be some sort of Elemental?”

Mizu looked back to the human. “A being made of concentrated forces from the earth?”

“Something like that, yeah.” Kotsui nodded.

He shook his head, “I’ve never thought of that. Why?”

“Maybe,” Kotsui sat next to him on the ledge, “You’re a spirit of water. It would make sense why you like water, ice and snow so much.”

“I suppose.”

Just then an important beep sound came from the TV, one of those ‘breaking news’ sounds. The two looked to the TV to hear.

“This just in.” came the woman in the suit on the screen, “There are numerous reports of the snow levels dropping far more than previous years…”

“Odd.” Kotsui walked over and turned up the volume.

“Experts have connected it to be a strange pattern. We’re here with Professor Isaac Johnson, a specialist studying the Arctic and Antarctic circles. Professor, what is going on? Why has the snow level increased so much in the last twenty years? Could this be linked to global warming?”

The mature man appeared on the screen, his glasses perched on the brim of his nose. He nodded and replied with a heavy French accent. “Yes, Sarah. I do believe that this is connected to global warming. The burning of fossil fuels has jumped the world’s melting points at the two coldest points on the planet. With all the fresh water falling into the ocean, the warm currents in the Pacific and Atlantic oceans have shut down, and created the world to freeze. Without the currents to circulate the hot water from the equator to the rest of the waters on the planet, I’m afraid we’ll freeze.”

“Wow. Professor, how long will this take to happen?”

“We predicted this to happen in fifty years and last over one hundred, but obviously it is happening much quicker than that and we don’t know why. I suspect it’s because of all the gases in the atmosphere are creating a certain shielding effect from the sun…”

“What a fool.” Mizu interrupted.

Kotsui looked to him surprised. “How so? It makes sense to me.”

Mizu’s blue hair turned a slightly more white icy shade of blue. “He thinks this is solved by the sciences and only that. Obviously because a god of the water is here is because this is happening.”

“God of… the water?” Kotsui looked at him in surprise. “You mean you?”

“I’m not doing anything.” Mizu frowned, looking back out the window to see the winds pick up suddenly. “Another one was just born.”

“How?”

“I think all the pollutants have upset the balance of gods being born- if that is what I am…. And the only ones able to live right now are the water ones. This one is very new and very annoyed with the humans.”

“Oh?”

“It’s freezing the planet.” Mizu stood up.

“Whoa whoa whoa!” Kotsui caught him. “Where do you think you’re going in this weather?”

“I have to find him and stop him, Kotsui.” Mizu answered.

Kotsui frowned. “A few minutes ago you didn’t know anything about yourself and now you do?”

“The other one’s calling out to me. It’s like I’ve been… enlightened in my mind.”

Kotsui frowned, holding Mizu’s shoulders. “Okaaay…. Well even if you do find him, what do you hope to accomplish? Wouldn’t he be mad at you for forgetting?”

Mizu shook his head, “I’m not sure… But twenty years is how long I’ve been alive, and now suddenly it’s gotten worse because another’s been born.” His cold ice eyes looked Kotsui in the eye. “I have to do something before the planet’s frozen.”

Kotsui was shoved aside as Mizu ran to the door and shoved it open, going out into the blizzard.

Baffled, Kotsui looked back to the news, glaring at the professor as he continued his scientific babble. “If we freeze, I blame you for pissing him off.”

Author's Comments

A little odd chapter. I had a few other ideas for this one, but none were quite good. I hate startings -_-;

On the other hand it just sounds funny to me- a small little pixie-sized water god is powerful enough to make things worse than Mizu has for 20 years xD;

.... It's odd. ^^;
