The sight before Hiero was horrifying. Spread out along the beautiful grass were dead bodies of birds- their blood littering the scene. He was unable to blue his blue eyes from the scene, and hardly felt the tears that fell to his cheeks. His mouth was gaping open. Sadness and anger were sweeping over him like a wave – who could kill these marvelous creatures like that? The birds were white with a few crest feathers above their eyes colored blue, and from their tails came several long feathers that were a beautiful mix of blue, green and purple. Almost three dozen of these once magnificent birds were dead.

Frustrated by his emotions and determined not to slip into the Insanity, Hiero hurried forward toward the group of corpses. He dropped to his knees, slammed his palms onto the grass and focused all of his energy. I will give back to this planet, he thought. I will give them back their lives!

His white hair fluffed up, being blown by a gentle wind as he felt his celestial powers awakening at his call. Strange lines started to spread from the edge of his hairline down his face, down his arms to his whole body. The lines formed strange square-shapes, a few loops, mostly appearing as if it were another language, stretched out upon long lines. They glowed an unearthly white, seeming metallic with other shades of sapphire and cyan. When the lines reached his black nails, they pierced through, and burst onto the earth and radiated out from him in a circle.

Concentrating as best he could, Hiero tried to aim the focus of his powers to the downed birds. The closest ones to him began to glow, their bodies being engulfed by the same lines from Hiero's body. As his power spread over them, Hiero could feel the very life force of the earth that he'd been absorbing to stay alive leaving him.

I must give back.” He cried, tears dripping from his eyes. “I must. I must. Please live!”

Cyril finally caught up with Hiero, sprinting up the hill toward the cliff. When he saw the ephemeral light, his face slackened and went pale. The bag over his arm dropped with a thud and he rushed forward to the boy.

Stop it!” He shouted, yanking Hiero up with his arms around his middle.

Hiero shouted and yelled, sobbing and crying, kicking and screaming. “Put me down! Put me down! I have to save them!”

Cyril had difficulty adjusting his weight so he didn't fall back, just barely able to cling onto Hiero by locking his hands together at the boy's stomach. “You can't, Hiero!”

Yes I can!” Hiero sobbed, trying to pry at the grip around his stomach while he legs still kicked in the air.

Cyril lifted Hiero higher into the air, leaning back. With one hand, he quickly let go of his grip and adjusted it so he cradled Hiero close to his being with one hand under his knees and the other tight around his shoulders.

Wailing and sobbing, tears never stopping, Hiero cried. “He killed them! He killed them all! I can't--” He stopped, one arm able to loop around Cyril's neck. His fingers dug into the fabric at the opposite shoulder.

I know, I know,” Cyril cut in, holding him tightly against his body. Hiero's body relaxed, no longer kicking and squirming to wriggle loose. Now the boy just clung onto him, sobbing into his shoulder. “You have to leave them. It's too many for you to resurrect. You weren't the one responsible for it.” Cyril cooed, whispering as gently as he could to the crying boy.

The only response he got was Hiero nodding a bit against his chest, and a weak chirp from his throat that sounded a lot like, “I know”.

Your MC is sad. Another character comforts them.
