Ghosts of the Grave
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
Vlalan and Ikawi were sitting at the kitchen bar downstairs. Ikawi had a glass of water sitting in front of him half-full.
“So, are you going to tell me or not?” Ikawi asked Vlalan. Vlalan grumbled, adjusting his shirt. “How’s your eye?”
“What do you care?” Vlalan asked, shifting back on the stool.
“Your mom told me about it.” Ikawi answered. “Memento’s in your right eye? And that’s also the eye that can see the auras?”
Vlalan shrugged, “Yeah, something like that.”
Ikawi nodded a bit, sipping from the glass. “A lot’s happened since you met Elle. Think you’ll ever be the same again?”
“As when?”
“When you met him.”
Vlalan shrugged, “Beats me.” He looked to the blond, “My mom said I was given the power I have to protect Elle, but I’m starting to doubt her.”
“Eh?”
“In my dreams lately, a sad woman who looks just like me is calling for her son,” Vlalan explained, looking down the glass. “Then she’ll say she has two sons, and then she’s a statue with large angel wings.”
Ikawi smirked, “I get it. You don’t think you’re human.”
Vlalan nodded a bit, “I’m starting to wonder what Zephyr is exactly.”
“He came out of a mining stone, right?” Vlalan nodded again. “Maybe someone trapped his soul in it.”
Vlalan look to him, “Trapped his soul- in a rock?” The other just nodded. Vlalan chuckled, “Now I’ve heard everything. Zephyr isn’t some divine being or something.”
“Then how else do you explain the flashes and the womb becoming impregnated with him?”
Vlalan shrugged as he stood up. “Then who’s the woman?”
“His mother?”
“Then why is she talking to me in my dreams, and not Elle?”
Ikawi smiled a bit, “Maybe something’s affecting your eye.”
Vlalan glared at him, “Or maybe I’m listening to the stupid banter of a corpse.”
Before Ikawi could argue anything, Vlalan grabbed him by the hair and led him to the door, shoving him out.
“Go bother someone else!”
Ikawi shouted at Vlalan as the door was slammed. “You can’t fight it! You can feel something twisting inside you!”
Vlalan sighed, pushing his back against the door. “What a moron.”
“Vlalan?” Elle asked, coming down the stairs. “Who were you just talking to?”
Figuring it best not to lie, Vlalan shrugged, “Ikawi.”
“What?” Elle stared. “But he…”
“Died?” Vlalan straightened up, walking over to the bar to clean up the glass. “Yeah, well, thank my mom. She somehow brought the jerk back to life.”
“Why?”
Vlalan dropped the glass into the sink, leaning on its edge. “I dunno, Elle.”
Elle frowned, seeing that tortured look on Vlalan’s face didn’t suit him. He walked over, gently touching his shoulders. “You’ll be okay.”
He sighed, leaning his head down. “It’s not me I’m worried about.”
“Hm?”
“What if he comes after you again- or Celsius does?” Vlalan asked, looking to him. “I don’t… I don’t think I can protect you from both of them.”
Elle laughed, “Really, Vlalan. I can do some stuff without you. I’ll be fine.”
Vlalan forced an uneasy smile. He patted Elle’s green hair, then left to the stairs. “Help yourself to breakfast. I’m gonna take a shower.”
“Okay…” Elle watched the brunette with worry. But once Vlalan was up the stairs, Elle helped himself to some cereal.
:boogie: It's coming along so goooood~
I realized I hadn't ever clarified anything about Vlalan's lineage or eye, so I'll get that cleared up ;3
After all, normal humans wouldn't be able to see auras or use the power of Memento like he can.
