After a few moments, Yao walked over to Mei in the crowd, talking to that same man from before.

“Mei!” Yao called out to him.

Mei looked to Yao, but then away frowning. “I don’t want to talk to you.”

“Huh? But I wanted to talk to you about something.” Yao answered, stopping next to Mei.

The tall man next to Mei, pushed Yao back. “He said he didn’t want to talk to you. So bug off.”

Yao glared up to the taller man, then smirked. “Well, well. I didn’t know a nice guy like Mei was attracting cockroaches.”

“Cock.. Cockroaches?” The man with black hair stiffened, totally insulted. “Yao, you’re such a--”

“Scamper off somewhere else, Jonny,” Yao glared. “I don’t have time to squish you.”

The man lifted his hand up to sock Yao, but Mei turned to him. “It’s ok, Jonny.” He looked to Yao, “What?”

“About what you said before.” Yao answered.

Mei shook his head, “Forget it. It was stupid.” He bowed a bit to Yao before he could say anything. He turned to Jonny next and bowed to him, “I’m gonna head out now. See you later.”

“Bye…” Jonny said, and he and Yao watched in silence as Mei just left to the stairs and out to leave. “Was he like that when you met him?”

“Like what?” Yao asked, looking to him.

“So quiet and distant.” Jonny shrugged, looking to the blond. “I met him just a bit ago, but I’ve never seen him react so much.”

“That’s because you aren’t worth it, Jonny.” Yao answered, starting for the stairs.

“Don’t be so cocky just cause you’re one of the most popular guys here!”

Yao stopped, turning to him. “And yet the people I love aren’t.”

Jonny didn’t have the courage to say anything more. Not to those emerald eyes that sent death upon him.

Yao left outside, looking around for Mei. It took a moment since it was dark out, but he spotted the yellow figure walking away down the sidewalk.

“Mei!” Yao shouted, running toward him. Mei stopped, turning to see Yao just stop beside him, gasping for breath. “I have to talk to you.”

“I don’t.” Mei said, starting away.

Yao grabbed Mei’s shirt, “Please. Just let me--”

“No!” Mei jerked away, covering his ears. “I don’t need to hear it! I already know you can’t love me! I already know you love Moi! I already know this! So why do I have to hear it from you?! Why do I need to hear it?”

Yao straightened up, his breath returning. He watched quietly as Mei held his head, quivering as tears began to well up in his eyes.

If I could just get a word in, just an action. Something to tell him it’s different now.

“Something,” Yao whispered as he reached his hand out to Mei’s figure.

The world froze around the two of them as Yao’s hand touched ever so gently on Mei’s pink hair. Without a sound, Yao took a step closer, and kissed Mei’s brow. Just a simple soft kiss.

That was all it took to break Mei’s hardened anti-social armor, the armor that was perfect and full of cracks.

Mei’s legs gave way and he fell to the ground.

It took a second, but then Mei looked up with his blue eyes in shock to Yao, who just knelt over him a bit.

“You know, Snowy misses you.” Yao said, a soft smile on his lips.

Mei stared up at Yao. His blond hair had come loose from the gel and was falling over his face, covering one of his eyes almost completely. His eye that Mei could see was seeming to emit a soft green glow, and half his body was lightened by the light next to them.

He wasn’t sexy with that look. No. That expression, those eyes, that face-- they surpassed pure sexiness and simply became the handsome profile that was leaning over Mei. Like an angel come to lift him from his sorrows.

“I… I miss Snowy.” Mei said softly.

The deafening silence broke and the world’s noises returned around them when Mei lifted his hand and clung to the edge of Yao’s blazer.
[Like an angel come to lift him from his sorrows.]
