Host's Chocolate

Yao left to the grocery store while the cake baked. Mei watched the cake faithfully and took it out on time. He knew better than to try and frost it right away, and began to wait the two and a half hours for it to cool.

Bored, Mei changed his clothes to jeans and a light sherbert orange sweater. He braided his hair back at the nape of his neck and tied the top and base with his two golden ribbons. After that, Mei searched through his bag for a special feather. It was a quill, an ivory white feather with an empty quill end.

He smiled, admiring the feather for a moment.

Then he lifted it into the air and wrote into the air ‘Yao’. After the quill was dropped back down, the place where the letters had been written glowed the name, and a small 3”x3” box dropped onto the floor. It was covered in red, tied shut with a white ribbon. Tied in with the bow was a lovely little lily.

Mei smiled, placing the box up onto the kitchen counter. He looked to the quill, spinning it in his fingers for a moment.

“He won’t be back too soon,” he said softly.

After placing the feather safely back into his bag, Mei removed his shirt. He closed his eyes, feeling nothing strange happen, but something did. Out from his shoulder blades, starting from the top, came two very small white feathered wings. They weren’t very big; fully stretched out they’d be maybe 12’’ long to the longest primary feather’s tip.

However, Yao only had gone to pick up some strawberries and another tub of frosting. He’d opened the door just in time to see the very oddly ‘normal’ view of the wings appearing.

It hadn’t been gruesome at all. If anything, it was fast and simple. The skin didn’t stretch, there was no tearing, and no odd hole. The wings just smoothly folded out fully in color, as if they had been flattened against his back this whole time.

“Whoa…”

Mei turned to look at Yao startled. The two didn’t say anything, just stared in silence. All that happened was Yao closed the door behind him, and gently put the bag of groceries on the counter.

“Wings…” Yao said after another moment’s silence.

“Yes…” Mei nodded a bit, not really moving.

“Turn so I can see them?”

Mei looked Yao’s very awed expression over carefully. He seemed to feel somewhat safe, or was just curious to what Mei would do, so he turned his back to Yao slowly. Yao walked toward him quietly, staring at the wings. The more he stared, the more he saw that they were real- hollow bones and all.

Without really realizing, Yao’s hand had moved up to touch one where it folded over.

“AIE!!!” Mei yelped suddenly at the touch, spinning around. It was so quick, the two backed up from each other so they wouldn’t hit the other. “Wh-what did you--”

Yao waved his hands, “Well they just looked really soft and pretty - I just wanted to touch it!”

Mei stared at Yao’s honest look. He wasn’t lying. “Oh…”

“Can I touch them?”

“S-sure…” Mei nodded, turning back toward Yao again timidly.

More careful this time, Yao gently touched the edge of the wing. Mei jumped a bit, startled by the feeling of someone touching the wing.

Nothing was said for the next while. Yao just gently felt and stroked the wings. He felt through the feathers to the muscle and at the bones, to the base and each feather right from the longest primary down to the softest down.

“Yao?”

“Hm?”

“Can… I sit down?” Mei asked.

Yao chuckled. “Sure.” He hadn’t realized almost half an hour had gone by.

He followed Mei to the sofa, closing the curtains, then went back to gently feeling at the wings.

“Why do you keep stroking them?” Mei asked, looking to him.

Yao laughed, “They’re just so soft~ I want to keep touching them!”
:boing: I dunno it just kinda happened XD

A feather that makes presents, and wings... lol This is so random!
