Veen frowned, stepping to the edge of the hill to look down at the pool of blood. “Cyril… You successfully seduced the last of the Lukarian to your faith and betrayed him.” She sighed, “I guess it’s true. Only sadness befalls a fallen kingdom.”

Then she vanished as quickly as she had appeared.

Luvos was carried back to the castle, and dropped into the extravagant throne room. Just then, the Princess had come in to see what so many knights were doing.

“What’s going on?” she asked cheerfully. When she saw Luvos, though she grew frantic. “Just what do you think you’re doing?!”

“Calm down, Selen.” Came her father’s voice from the throne. “Why are you even up at this hour?”

“I always get up one hour before dawn,” she glared to her father. “Now why is Luvos here?”

He frowned at her, “The Primatosians haven’t found the Prince of Lukaros in the last five years. They’ve decided that he must be hiding here.”

“What do they want with him?” she asked.

“I don’t know,” he admitted to his daughter. “But I must surrender him to them if I hope to keep this country safe.”

“After all,” came a tired voice, “Lukaros was only a stupid back-water country, right?”

The two looked over to see Luvos shifting to stand up, blood dripping from his wounds.

“Luvos!” Selen rushed over to help him stand.

“King Tamura,” Luvos sad after a moment to catch his breath. “I understand your situation. But I beg you! Don’t give them my brothers! Please don’t! They don’t have any powers at all!”

“Please, father?” Selen begged with him.

The King frowned, taking a breath to think. “Very well. I’m friends with Clerincile’s King; they can go there.”

“Thank you.” Luvos bowed his head a bit.

“Rupart,” King Tamura instructed to a knight near him. “Have Prince Luvos bandaged and taken care of. We don’t want to be sending him down to the Primatosians half-dead, do we?” He chuckled. “Oh, and Rupart.” He gestured the knight closer to whisper something in his ear, “Don’t let him out of your sight.”

“Sir.” The burly knight from before nodded and then walked down to Luvos. “Your Highness, might I carry you to the infirmary?” Luvos nodded a bit, letting the knight pick him up like a sack of flour.

Selen frowned, watching them leave. As soon as they were gone she snapped a glare at her father. “How dare you just surrender him! They want him for some terrible reason! I can feel it!”

King Tamura slammed his fist on his arm rest, “Silence! I have to think of the well-being of our country, not a single person!”

“Well what country’s well-being should he be looking after if his is gone?” Selen shouted back.

“Lukaros was burned to the ground years ago and Primatosian occupation has left it! All the inhabitants are gone!” he shouted back, “There’s nothing left but the last of the true Lukarian blood in him.”

“Why does that blood matter so much?”

“They could see the future,” he explained, his tone more calm now. “Some could say that the royal family even had the ability to alter Fate itself.”

Selen frowned, “That’s not right..”

“Not like they ever did,” he chuckled. “It was said if they did, it would take them to the brink of death.”
